Saeeda Ahmed (Trescom) in her role as a Social Enterprise Ambassador and part of the group of ambassadors visited the PM Gordon Brown on Social Enterprise Day.

 

At the Social Enterprise reception Gordon Brown spoke very highly of the role of Social Enterprise. The Prime Minister was very positive about Social Enterprise and made an extra effort to point out that every single one of the people working in the social enterprise sector around UK was making a major difference to their own communities.

 

Ministers -Tessa Jowell and Angela Smith also supported the event and spoke of the future role of the sector.

Trescom is the lead organization and the fund holder in this unique partnership with Artworks to support local people to improve their lives. A team of 30 Learning Champions and local artists supports, through the innovative use of arts-based creative activities, 600 disadvantaged men and women aged 19-years and over to develop their self-confidence, motivation and learning capability.

This project was about embedding equality into learning. It included two strands: Home Learn (training, empowering and supporting women to develop a culture of learning within the home) and NYou Sensations (training and supporting young disaffected males into learning by utilising urban music and dance as a tool).

    ‘Confidence Building’ Level 1 Accredited Course. Unit from the Trescom ‘Skills for Communities’ Programme accredited by the Open College Network Yorkshire and Humber Region.

    Large-scale employability programme for women returners to the Labour Market and lone mothers. An 8 week, intensive development programme.

    Mainstream jobcentre advisers referred over 200 long term unemployed people to an employment provision. 6 weeks employability and soft skills training programme for the individuals which including group based training, one-to-one support and individual learner plans, employer visits, direct employer interviewing and job-search.
